Overview
If you have experienced domestic violence, or if you fear for the safety of yourself or your children, you may be eligible for a protective order.
The court can order a wide variety of restrictions to keep you and your children safe. These include preventing the person causing the abuse from living in your home or entering your home or place of employment, and preventing him or her from contacting, abusing, or threatening you and/or your children.
Protective orders can further require the person causing the abuse, to pay emergency family maintenance (such as the mortgage and/or child support), to surrender all firearms, and can address custody and access of minor children. Before granting a protective order the court requires specific grounds to be met. There are many steps and requirements in obtaining these orders or preventing someone from obtaining such an order without the proper grounds.
McMillan Metro Faerber, P.C. can help you navigate the process and advocate for your protection and wellbeing. You do not have to go through this process alone. Please call us at (301) 251-1180 or submit an online inquiry.
